Who is responsible?

Coni is developed by Jamie Malcolm. For privacy questions or requests, email contact@meetconi.app. This policy covers the Coni iPhone app and meetconi.app.

Your location and phone direction

With your permission, Coni uses your location and motion sensors to calculate your local sky and align the map with your phone. Coordinates are held in memory during the session. Coni does not save a location history or send your coordinates to us or to the satellite data provider.

Your camera

Camera access is optional and requested when you enable Camera. The live preview stays on your device. Coni does not record, save or upload camera images and does not access your photo library. Camera capture stops when the feature is disabled or the app leaves the foreground.

Your voice

Ask Coni is an optional, tap-to-speak feature. It requests microphone and speech recognition permission, uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition, and requires on-device processing. If that is unavailable, Coni offers text search instead. Audio is not saved or uploaded by Coni. The transcript is used in the app to find an object; there is no saved voice or search history. Coni does not listen continuously or use an always-on wake word.

Optional satellite and Starlink downloads

These features are off by default and controlled separately in Settings. When enabled, Coni requests public orbital catalogues from CelesTrak over HTTPS. Requests do not include your observer coordinates or search terms. As with other internet requests, CelesTrak receives your IP address and request information, including a Coni app identifier in the user-agent header.

Coni caches orbital data on your phone, calculates positions locally and stores update timing and status locally. Disabling a feed stops its downloads. Cached files can remain until the system clears them or you delete the app. CelesTrak operates its own service; see its usage policy for information about access and request limits.

What stays on your phone

Coni stores preferences such as night mode, constellation display, satellite settings and whether you have completed the introduction. Satellite data and update status are also stored locally. Coni has no developer-run account database and does not send these preferences to us. Deleting the app removes its local data from that device; device backups are managed separately through Apple.

This website

The site’s pages do not include advertising, analytics scripts, embedded third-party media, tracking cookies or signup forms. Hosting and delivery providers process technical request information, such as IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs and timestamps, to deliver and protect the site.

Cloudflare hosts this website and provides domain and network services. Its handling of technical data is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy. These providers may process data in countries other than your own.

If you contact us

When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, such as a device model or screenshot. We use this to respond and troubleshoot, not to build an advertising profile. Email providers process and store correspondence to deliver the service. We retain correspondence only for as long as needed to handle the request and any necessary follow-up or legal obligations. Please avoid sending precise location details or other sensitive information unless needed for your request.

Your choices and rights

You can change app permissions in iPhone Settings, disable optional downloads inside Coni and delete the app to remove its local data. Where data protection law applies, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information you have sent us, restrict or object to its use, or request a copy. Contact us to make a request. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

We use correspondence to respond to your requests and technical website data to provide and secure the site. Where required, these activities rely on our legitimate interests in providing support and operating the service. Optional device access is controlled by your permission choices.

Changes to this policy

If Coni’s data practices change, we will update this page and its date. Material changes will be explained through an appropriate notice.
